To celebrate, teachers at Damascus College Ballarat threw themselves into world of Alice in Wonderland on Friday as part of Children's Book Council of Australia’s Book Week.
Loretta Kaval, head of the St Martin's Resource Centre, said book week is highly beneficial for students.
“It helps with building literacy,” Ms Kaval said.
“We do a lot of activities with the kids based on winning picture books.
“We've had a few quizzes and we do a fair bit of general decoration around the school.
“It's amazing how much children want to know about the book and as soon as you start promoting it they want to read it.”
Traditionally, teachers also embrace the week with a celebration of their own.
“This year we’re dressing up as Alice and Wonderland since it was published 150 years ago,” Ms Kaval said.
The party featured staff member Simon Carroll as a guest performer as well as an Australian Spelling Bee quiz.
