WestVic boys set for showdown with St Bernard's

WESTVIC under-17 boys have a perfect record in Hockey Victoria state league grand finals.

They have had one appearance for one premiership since joining the competition in 2005, winning a pennant three years ago.

WestVic is planning to make it two-out-of-two at Altona tonight.

The Ballarat-based Bendigo Bank WestVic clash with St Bernard’s.

There has been little between them this year, with the Chris Vaughan-coached WestVic and St Bernard’s finishing one-two after sharing the honours in their two home and away encounters.

WestVic will have support from across Western Victoria, with as its name suggests, its young line-up – six players are under-15 – coming from a wide area across the region.

The line-up: Thomas Watts (captain), Will Jackson, Need Jackson (all St Arnaud), Hamish Verco (Bordertown), Matt Haberfield, Bryce Robinson, Simon Churcher, Zac Shipham (Ballarat), Magnus Baker (Amphitheatre), Max Ferrier, Jack White, (Warrnambool), Braden Clark, Lachlan Clark (Kaniva), Brody Welding, Oscar Currell (Camperdown).

Assistant coach: Chris Mitchell.
