Red Devils aim to end 2012 with top three finish

WITH their hopes of promotion from Football Federation Victoria men’s state league two now gone, the Ballarat Red Devils simply look to cap off 2012 in winning fashion.

The Haymes Red Devils dropped their second match in-a-row at the weekend, slipping eight points adrift of the top two with two games to play.

Today they meet cellar-dwellers Altona City at Trekardo Park.

“We’re sitting fourth on the ladder and can still get a top three finish, which for me is an excellent result,” playing manager Brian Shelley said.

“Expectations were mid-table from the board at the beginning of the season so we’ve exceeded those.”

Following his red card last Saturday, goalkeeper Simon Williams has received an automatic one-match ban and will be replaced in the side by development squad gloveman Jacob McDowell.

Star midfielder Sean Harding has also been suspended after a fifth yellow card and will miss today’s encounter.

Ballarat plays its final match of the season away to Preston Lions next Saturday.
