The competition, has has seen more than 900 competitors flock to Ballarat in a quest to be named Australian champion, hit St Patrick’s College for the sprint competition on Friday.
With the weather only going to get warmer on Saturday for the long-distance and relay events, competitors will have to recover quickly as the course ventures out to the heavily-forested Creswick Park. The championships have been running since September 26 and will wrap up on Sunday. Saturday’s long-distance event is considered the most prestigious, with more than 800 athletes in action in the dense bush of Creswick. A large display screen and live tracking of competitors will be set up.
