TAFE teachers have secured a new pay deal, ending months of uncertainty and a potential political headache for the Andrews government.

The state government has granted two 2.5 per cent pay rises over the next year and a $2000 sign-on bonus for continuing and fixed-term staff.
The sector-wide agreement signals the first pay rise for TAFE teachers since 2012.
Australian Education Union Victorian branch president Meredith Peace said Victorian TAFE teachers had watched 3000 of their colleagues lose their jobs over the past three years.
"In that time, TAFE teachers haven't had a salary increase and their jobs have been uncertain in a system that has benefited private providers at the expense of quality training in Victoria."
Training and Skills Minister Steve Herbert said the deal would provide certainty to hardworking Victorian TAFE teachers and help the sector move towards a new funding model.
"This agreement is another step forward in rebuilding confidence and stability in our public TAFE system," Mr Herbert said.
The union called on the government to stop dodgy training colleges, and redirect funds to TAFEs.
The Victorian TAFE Association also welcomed the new pay deal, saying Victoria's 12 public TAFEs were the "benchmark of quality VET provision".
