The outfit is known for bringing to life the unique language, roots and humour of Australia through the use of songs, stories and yarns.
As well as celebrating Australian artists of the past such as Henry Lawson, Banjo Paterson and Slim Dusty, Me ‘N Me Mates performs contemporary, original material and reinterprets traditional songs.
Me ‘N Me Mates performer Chris John said the band aimed to celebrate Australia’s rich character.
“We tend to undervalue our own culture. Other countries take pride and treasure their traditions, stories and songs. Australia has a rich treasury of our own and we need to celebrate this,” he said.
“Our group challenges the stereotype and reflects more closely how Australian society looks today.”
John said recent migrants who had watched the show found it helped them understand Australia’s character in more depth.
Me ‘N Me Mates will perform at the Ballarat Observatory on Saturday, October 10 at 2pm. For more information, call Chris John on 0413 533 118.
