Ride into Ballarat for the Gold Museums special community day – the Festival of Spokes.
Wheelie experts from The Squeaky Wheel will be on hand teaching people how to ride and provide safety tips.
Cyclist Damien Kierl will put all his effort into making a heart stopping ride as hops on a penny farthing and races his heart out against a modern cyclist and a hobby horse rider.
The YMCA will run bike maintenance workshops, the Ballarat Historical Society will display their extensive collection of bikes, and Club Mud will show off their collection of mountain bikes.
This family events offers kids, young and old alike, the chance to discover the fun, fitness and passion of bikes and cycling, ever since this two-wheeled vehicle captured our hearts and become a fixture on Ballarat’s roads and tracks.
Two new long-term exhibition openings will coincide with the festival.
On your bike! will run from October 31, 2015 to April 3, 2016.
Visitors will be taken on a ride of cycling history – from the early velocipede to the 20th century racing bicycle.
The second exhibition – Freewheeling: Cycling in Australia will run from OCtober 31, 2015 to Janaru 2016.
More than 140 years of cycling in Australia – including the spirit and passion surround it – will be on display during this period.
