They provide the best of care, both physical and emotional, to our sick kids and comfort to the families of those worried about their children in hospital.
They are the men and women of the Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital children’s ward … a great team of people who work tirelessly to help children through everything from minor ailments to major diseases.
On Sunday, the Ballarat community will have a chance to say thanks to these people and raise much-needed funds for the children’s ward during the popular annual Run Ballarat.
Thousands of people will be donning their special Run Ballarat t-shirts, hats and other gear and pounding the pavement in either walks or runs through the streets to raise funds for and awareness of the fantastic children’s ward.
Participants can take part in a 12-kilometre or 6km run or a 6km family and friends walk. Children aged 4-12 can do the popular 1km Kids Run.
From babies in their prams, to elderly people in wheelchairs, the City Oval and Ballarat streets will be a hive of activity for a true worthy cause … our children.
Sunday’s weather of sunny and 25 degrees will be conducive to rounding out an amazing family event.
Run Ballarat entries hit 4600 on Thursday afternoon and the event is on target to be bigger and better than last year. The event has raised more than $500,000 since its inaugural event in 2012 – all for Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital children’s ward redevelopment.
Ballarat should be proud of its ability to band together to help a great cause or others in need. We do that during and after adversities like floods and fires, when people have been targeted by thieves or when others are suffering life-threatening illnesses.
The city is not only generous of heart, but also of pocket. And this year’s Run Ballarat should be no different.
So slip on your Run Ballarat shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on your Run Ballarat hat for what is the biggest collective fundraiser on Ballarat’s calendar.
