Yoa joins Tan Relay elite

DUER Yoa has joined an elite band of runners to clock a sub-11 minute leg in an Athletics Victoria “Tan Relay”.

Yoa was one of three inside 11 minutes in the last round of the XCR’12 Series on Saturday.

The Ballarat Regional Athletics Centre leader ran 10.58 on the famed 3.8km circuit.

The Box Hill duo of Harry Summers and Chris Hamer ran 10.37 and 10.58 respectively.

Summers, who is from Sydney and was recruited by Box Hill this season, ran the second fastest time around the Tan by an Australian.

Craig Mottram clocked 10:08 in a training run by the Richmond Football Club in 2006.

Summers’ time is the fastest time record in the AV Tan Relays though, which have been contested since 2005.

He eclipsed 10.40 produced by Mottram for Geelong last year. Ballarat’s Collis Birmingham (10.52) back in 2006, Mark Fountain (Geelong) 10.53 in 2010 and Liam Adams (Essendon) 10.59 in 2008 are others to have run under 11 minutes in the AV Tan Relays.

Until Saturday, Yoa was 10th on the all-time rankings with 11.08 in 2008.

He is now equal fifth.

Box Hill won the men’s division one relay the weekend ahead of Knox, invitee Sydney University and Ballarat, which also featured teenagers Jack Davies and Stewart McSweyn.

While it missed victory in the final race of the season, Knox claimed its first XCR men’s division one premiership.

Box Hill’s win allowed it to climb to second in the men’s division 1 standings, with Ballarat Region third in its debut season.
