The GJ Gardner Tigers have confirmed the pair will replace Terry Simpson at the helm, with the joint coaching appointment announced on Sunday.
Searl and Couch – both former North Ballarat Roosters footballers – joined Springbank last season and played an important part in the club’s breakthrough premiership.
“We are absolutely thrilled to get those blokes,” immediate past president Anthony Simpson told The Courier.
Simpson said Searl had long been on the club’s radar to coach and it had allowed him to seek out his sidekick to share the job.
He said it was massive to land two players with Victorian Football League experience to coach the senior side and believed the appointment allowed the club to maintain a level of continuity.
Searl was one of the Central Highlands league’s big signings last year when he joined the Tigers after retiring from the VFL, while Couch was on North Ballarat’s list during 2015, but nominated Springbank as his home club and played with the Tigers when not required by the Roosters.
