But the annual Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Ride, culminating in Ballarat on Sunday, also had a serious side – raising money for Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Organiser Marcel Gomperts said about 1000 bikes arrived at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens from as far as Ferntree Gully, Gippsland, Mount Gambier, Horsham, Geelong and Bendigo.
He said he expected the day to raise about $15,000 for BCNA, which helps people going through the traumatic processes of breast cancer treatment.
Mr Gomperts said the event, which has been running for 11 years, always seemed to be on sunny days despite wet weather before and after.
“Someone is looking after this event for us, someone with greater power than me,” he said.
The Harley Owners Group, Ulysses Club, Point Cook and Ballarat Riders and the Vietnam and Veterans Motorcycle Club all turned up for the ride.
