The Alfredton Lucas Lions Club has just taken on a new park in Cuthberts Road, Alfredton, and is working on a series of fundraising events to fit it out with a barbecue and play equipment.
The car trialling event on Sunday was the club’s first fundraising effort, with participants coming from as far afield as Melton and Ballan.
The goal was to drive across the district ticking off a series of challenges and finding answers to a plethora of questions.
Organiser Debbie Ware said participants – both adults and children – were given directions and things they had to find along the way, proving they were there by taking “selfies”.
“I sort of had a vision, I remember being a youngster doing car trials so I put it out there and thought it might be a bit of fun,” she said.
One of the tasks was to ride a plastic alpaca at the Creswick Woollen Mills and also take a selfie with Possum Magic characters in Raglan Street before taking on other challenges at Buninyong.
“They had to take a selfie with Possum the pudding thief,” Mrs Ware said.
Challengers finished the day with a barbecue and races, with winners taking home donated goodies from local businesses.
The Alfredton Lucas Lions Club raises money for worthy community causes, and is looking for new members.
