Isaac Smith
HAWK Isaac Smith will attempt to play three grand finals in four years at three different levels – stepping up each time.
Should Hawthorn beat Adelaide in Saturday’s twilight preliminary final, Smith has a chance to bid for an AFL title.
If successful, it will continue Smith’s rapid rise in football that netted a Ballarat Football League premiership with Redan in 2009 and a Victorian Football League premiership after moving to North Ballarat Roosters mid-season in 2010.
The speedy midfielder was drafted to the Hawks as the club’s first pick in the 2010 AFL national draft.
Smith played 16 games in his debut AFL season last year, including an AFL preliminary final against Collingwood – a three-point loss to the Magpies prevented Smith from a hat-trick of grand final appearances.
The 23-year-old is originally from Cootamundra in New South Wales and moved to Ballarat for university studies.
In his time with Redan, Smith also played interleague for the BFL and represented Victoria in the Australian Country Football Championships.
