Dame Elisabeth in intensive care

Dame Elisabeth Murdoch is reportedly recovering in hospital after breaking her leg.

The 103-year-old has been admitted to intensive care in hospital but is said to be "doing well", according to radio station 3AW.

Dame Elisabeth is a passionate philanthropist, supporting more than 100 charities each year.

She celebrated her 103rd birthday in February.

Her son Rupert is the founder, chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, the second-largest media conglomerate in the world.

He is in Australia and has cancelled meetings in Sydney to be by his mother’s bedside in Melbourne.

Dame Elisabeth reportedly declined a general anaesthetic for surgery and instead opted for local anaesthetic.
