Representing the Ballarat District Bowls Division, Kierce and McCraken claimed the final from Goldfields Division duo Jan Turner (Maryborough Highlands) and Barbara Crossley (Talbot), winning 16-10.
Interestingly, the event had to be played over two venues on the same day. Play commenced at the Lancefield Bowling Club in the morning, and after the first final was played, the venue was washed out and it was decided to transfer the afternoon’s final to the new under cover facility at the Sebastopol Bowling Club.
This was the first tournament final hosted using the facility at Sebastopol.
In the men’s decider, Maryborough Highlands pair Ken Taggart and Ken Rogers won 15 shots to 12 over Webbcona pair Harold Worsley and Frank Clarke.
Meanwhile, the two-bowl triples day at Ballarat Memorial Sports has been hailed a tremendous success, with entries filling all rinks on BMS’s two greens.
At the commencement of the day’s play, a spider was played, with BMS’s Graham Boak winning.
This raised $125 for The Arch of Victory Foundation trust.
The Ballarat East team of Ian Hedger, Jeff Hogg and Chris Steenhuis was winners on the day, ahead of runners-up Cameron Bryce, Andrew Bedggood and Garry Fitzsimons, from BMS.
On Sunday, November 22, Ballarat players will take part in the Grigsby Pethard Shield in Bendigo.
Buses will leave from Sebastopol Bowing Club at 7am and then Webbcona Bowling Club at 7.20am.
Unavailable players are asked to notify Barry McArthur or the BDBD secretary.
