The City of Ballarat revealed late last week Cr Hudson was the only councillor to officially nominate for the role while Cr Coates was only councillor to nominate herself for the position of deputy. However, The Courier understands in earlier closed door discussions there was a single vote between Cr Hudson and Cr Samantha McIntosh.
Council insiders revealed Cr Hudson has the support of councillors including Peter Innes, Glen Crompton, John Philips and Belinda Coates. It is also understood Cr McIntosh had support from Councillors Amy Johnson, Jim Rinaldi and potentially Vicki Coltman.
The Courier understands councillors Amy Johnson and Peter Innes also stood for the position of deputy but chose not to officially nominate because they did not have the majority support of councillors. Councillors will vote for the city’s next mayor on Monday night.
