SENIOR Ballarat City Council officers would work a minimum two hours a month in front line jobs, under a proposal by council candidate Amy Johnson.
Ms Johnson said it would encourage high-ranking staff to engage with their customers, provide them with a “hands on” understanding of front line services and ensure community feedback.
“There is a perception in the community that senior council officers are nothing more than bureaucratic fat cats,” Ms Johnson said.
“People think that senior council officers are incompetent, arrogant and are out of touch with community concerns.
“This is common practice in a number of organisations, and it should be in place for Ballarat City Council.”
She said the two-hour time slot would coincide with busy customer service periods so officers get a real understanding of the issues faced by frontline staff.
“This plan is about bringing these executive staff back to reality,” Ms Johnson said.
“People see our senior council officers as overpaid and indecisive.
“This plan ensures our senior officers do some hard work for a change.”
