A woman woke to find a burglar tapping her on the head before he made off with her designer handbags in a bizarre robbery in Melbourne's north, police say.

The 49-year-old woman was asleep on her couch when a burglar broke into her home on The Eyrie at Eaglemont about 3.15am on Saturday, November 7.
She woke when the burglar began tapping her on the head.
She got up to find a man standing in the doorway holding her designer handbags, jewellery and laptop.
The man ran from the room soon after, taking the woman's Hermes handbag, Alexander Wang handbag, silver jewellery and Sony laptop with him.
The laptop had been on the couch, next to the sleeping woman.
Police have released a computer-generated image of the brazen burglar. He is described as aged between 30 and 40 years old and 175 centimetres tall, with a medium build, blond hair and a fair complexion.
