White Dove Funerals managing director Ian Gibson had sought an interim injunction from the Supreme Court to stop Michelle Appleton's funeral and cremation taking place on Monday afternoon so he could have the body checked for broken bones.

Michelle Appleton's daughter, Nicole, posted a series of allegations against White Dove Funerals on her Facebook page on Friday.

Ms Appleton said her 42-year-old mother, who passed away on November 14 from what is believed to be a cancer-related illness, had pre-paid $8000 to White Dove Funerals for the funeral but claimed her mother's body had been mistreated since she was at the funeral home.

"The coffin was tiny and I would be amazed if they haven't broken her bones jamming her in there she now also has two black eyes and they threw her clothes on top of her didn't even dress her," Nicole wrote in her Facebook post, which has been shared 547 times.

"They refused viewings and the cards looked like a child had made them. They also got her name wrong and said she had been married, which is not true."

Nicole Appleton says she organised for her mother's body to be transferred from White Dove Funerals to Gateway Grant Funerals in Chelsea Heights on Friday.

She paid thousands of dollars extra to have Gateway Grant Funerals conduct the funeral and cremation on Monday.

Justice Kim Hargrave rejected Mr Gibson's application, finding that the "intemperate" Facebook post was hyperbole and an obvious exaggeration, and did not specifically accuse the funeral home of breaking Ms Appleton's bones.

The judge noted that the post was made by someone in distress over her mother's death.

He understood the damage to White Dove's reputation had arisen out of "this unfortunate set of circumstances" but, on the other hand, he had to weigh up the need to interfere with a funeral.

Judge Hargrave pointed out that no prior notice had been given to Ms Appleton's family before the injunction application was heard.

The judge said the fact Nicole might have "gone over the top" in her Facebook post was no reason not to tell her about the injunction being sought.

He dismissed the application and ordered Mr Gibson pay the legal costs of lawyers representing Gateway Grant Funerals.

Mr Gibson had earlier told the court that since Nicole's Facebook post, he had received death threats and been called a dog.

He claimed there had been threats to burn down his business and run him out of town.

"It's just beyond a joke," Mr Gibson said.

He told Justice Kim Hargrave that he wanted to clear his name which was why he needed to have Ms Appleton's body checked for broken bones.

Mr Gibson said he had not worked for 25 years in the funeral industry to have his reputation destroyed and lose it all.

He wanted Ms Appleton's body taken to the State coroner's office and a CT scan performed to determine if there were any broken bones.

A statement read to the court from an embalmer with Gateway Grant Funerals claimed he observed that Ms Appleton's body had been placed in a coffin far too small for her body.

The embalmer claimed Ms Appleton's body had been "distorted" to make it fit into the coffin.

He said there were significant signs of dehydration on her face, neck, hands and legs which gave the appearance of black eyes.

The funeral and cremation for Ms Appleton, who had been placed in a new coffin, was held at Bunurong Memorial Park at Bangholme on Monday afternoon.
