But even dyed-in-the-wool Ebenezer types would be hard-pressed to not be lured by Sovereign Hill’s annual Christmas shopping night with gifts fashioned from the ways of old.
Fare from the 1850s such as traditional hard-boiled sweets, Christmas puddings, homemade candles, wooden toys, cookware, books and jewellery will be available for purchase.
The Hope Bakery will be open with Christmas cakes and puddings, mince tarts, party pies and sausage rolls.
Sovereign Hill’s main thoroughfare, Main Street, will also come to life with entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus.
Entry to the open-air museum will be free for the event, to be held December 4 from 6pm to 8.30pm.
Christmas Fest by the Lake will be held the same evening at Pleasant Street Primary School, an event featuring Santa’s Cave, showbags, rides, food, boutique beer, wine and entertainment.
