But if this was to happen, there was one thing he was adamant to do.
“I wanted to draw out more of the humour than what I’ve seen done in other productions. I genuinely felt like this has not been done well enough,” he said.
Thomson is now directing Ballarat National Theatre’s staging of the famous Oscar Wilde play.
The Importance of Being Earnest is a farcical comedy which sees the characters maintain fictitious personalities in order to escape burdensome social obligations.
Thomson said although the play was set in the Victorian era, it was a timeless piece of work. “I think like a good piece of literature, it has deeper messages in it even though it is a comedy.”
