Amaze (formerly Autism Victoria) NDIS information officer Pamela Gatos will be on hand to answer questions and offer information on the scheme roll-out, which launches in the Grampians region from January.
Embrace Autism Spectrum Disorder president Amber Durante said is was important for individuals and their families to know what might be available under the new scheme.
“The NDIS will give individualised support for people with a significant and permanent disability,” Ms Durante said. “If you believe you and your family are ineligible, think again.
“But it’s also vital to get the right kind of support when applying for the NDIS and that’s where this session will be really valuable.”
Ms Durante said 44 per cent of applicants with an ASD, including people with Aspergers Syndrome, received funding in the NDIS’ Barwon region trial.
Hosted in the Embrace ASD well-being library at Ballan Primary School, the library will be open for parents and friends to peruse and borrow from a large collection of toys, equipment, books and videos for people with a sensory disability.
Amaze’s NDIS free information session is in Ballan primary’s community room on Thursday, 11.30am.
