THE owner of an adult store in Ballarat has been fined $7000 for selling X-rated DVDs and glass pipes used for smoking ice, a court has heard.
Rodney Bevan Guy didn’t have a permit to sell either lot of items, and was charged by police following a raid at his Grandlee Adult Boutique business on March 29 this year.
The 31-year-old appeared in Ballarat Magistrates Court yesterday, where he pleaded guilty to selling a commercial quantity of X classified films and displaying an ice pipe in a public retail outlet.
According to prosecution summary obtained by The Courier, Guy had 798 adult films on sale.
One hundred and forty five were classified X18+, while the rest were unclassified but would have been rated X18+ if classified, the summary read.
In the display cabinet of the front counter police also located 13 glass pipes used for smoking methylamphetamine, and a further 20 ice pipes in a box under a desk.
Magistrate Kay Robertson fined him $7000 with conviction.
