Remember Geoff Shaw, the balance of power independent who wreaked havoc for the former Coalition government?

One year after losing the seat of Frankston, Mr Shaw has revealed he briefly considered re-entering politics after being urged to run either for an upper house position in the state parliament, or for the federal seat of Dunkley, which is being vacated by former small business minister Bruce Billson.

But in an interview with The Age, a relaxed sounding Mr Shaw said he was enjoying life away from politics, keeping fit, playing drums in a Christian rock band, and spending time with wife Bianca.

Mr Shaw has also pursued various business opportunities, including as managing director of a hair transplant clinic.

"I wanted to take a year off, I've worked hard since I was nine years old," he said. "I had my time, I had a voice and I'm not one to play political games."

The former MP, who kept the last parliament on a knife edge after abandoning the Liberal Party to sit on the crossbench, also revealed he had been in talks about a talkback radio show with prominent lawyer and former National Crime Authority chairman Peter Faris, QC.

"The media is coloured by left wing politics," Mr Shaw said. "Peter and I get together periodically to talk about stuff. Who knows, we might do blogs or we might do talk back if someone picks us up."

Despite the controversy, the extreme scrutiny and various investigations, Mr Shaw says he has few regrets about his time in the parliament, arguing he put his conscience first and achieved much for his electorate.

Mr Shaw accused premier Daniel Andrews of a pro-union, anti-Christian agenda, referring to decisions to ban hymns in schools and move religious instruction outside of class hours.

"In their first year they have banned Christmas carols in schools, they've taken religious education out of state schools, and they then decide to give a slap to small business by giving another public holiday," Mr Shaw said.

Mr Shaw, who faced a police investigation but was ultimately not charged for allegedly misusing his parliamentary vehicle, also lashed out at Labor as hypocritical for relentlessly attacking him as a rorter.

It follows allegations Labor inappropriately used electoral staff partly funded by Parliament during its successful 2014 election campaign.

"In opposition they are like rabid dogs," he said. "But here we have the Labor Party, after all their slagging at me, here are the rules they accused me of breaking, they are breaking."
