Thieves broke into Redline Raceway track in Buninyong on Wednesday night, nabbing a red tow truck from the venue.
Belmont Speedway Drivers Club president Mick Purdie said the loss was devastating for the club-owned venue, when it was expecting more than one thousand fans at Saturday’s King of the Mount event.
The red tow truck is used during crashes, which can happen up to four times during the event, and ensure races can go ahead and are not delayed.
The red 1971 Ford F100 is only worth a couple of thousand dollars – but for the club it is priceless.
“It’s a low life act,” Mr Purdie said.
“(For us) it’s really priceless … but for someone else, what are they going to do with it?”
Ballarat-base vice president Greg Raggatt said the cost of replacing the truck would put a huge dent in the club’s finances.
“It’s pretty disappointing,” Mr Raggatt said.
“We are a not-for-profit club and are run by volunteers.
“We have been working pretty have to improve the venue and run good events for the community.
“The impact is massive – it slows down the whole event.”
Other vehicles were opened during the theft, a fence was also torn down – but nothing else was stolen.
Both men have urged anyone with information to contact the police who are investigating the theft. They are hopeful the vehicle will be retrieved in time for a January meet.
