The Missing Persons Squad announced the reward would apply for information identifying those responsible for the death of the 27-year-old man, which occurred in Moe.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Butler said police had credible information suggesting a number of people were involved in the death.
He also said police believed a number of people living in the Moe area 29 years ago knew what happened to Mr Pisani.
“Our enquiries so far lead us to believe some of these people may be living in Ballarat and Tasmania and we are encouraging them to contact police,” he said.
“Albert’s family have been waiting 29 years for answers and it’s time people stepped up and gave them the resolution they need.”
A reward of up to $1 million will be paid at the discretion of the Chief Commissioner for information that leads to the apprehension and conviction of those responsible for the death.
The Department of Public Prosecutions will also consider granting indemnity to people providing information about the identify of the offenders.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
