The Hawks have rebounded from a slow start to the season to win their past five games, including Monday’s 85-69 triumph over Daylesford.
Two convincing rink wins were the key to City Oval’s success.
Jan Vance’s side was terrific, winning 35-20, while Rosaleen Ryan skippered her side to an impressive 11-shot victory.
Daylesford managed to snare the other rink with a hefty 29-19 win, but it was not enough to bridge the gap.
It’s been an excellent return to form for City Oval, which struggled early on, winning just one of its first three outings.
However, a strong win against Central Wendouree in round four seemed to be just the tonic that the Hawks needed.
Since then, they’ve gone from strength to strength, with big wins of Midlands Golf, Clunes and Smeaton.
Only Avenue has enjoyed the same recent success, having also won its past five games.
City Oval emerged convincing winners when the two teams faced each other in the opening round of the season, winning 87-55.
In other division one results on Monday, Avenue easily accounted for Smeaton in its 82-51 victory, while Sebastopol claimed a significant 104-48 win over cellar-dwellers Clunes.
It was the Kookaburras third-straight triumph, with the highlight being a 35-13 rink win by Joan Dunn’s side.
Central Wendouree also continued its strong form, defeating Creswick 90-47 and claiming all three rinks.
It was yet another statement from Central Wendouree that it is a genuine contender this season.
Meanwhile, after three rounds without a victory, Midlands Golf finally returned to the winners’ list.
A 21-shot rink win by Jan Vincent’s side was vital in the 79-58 win over Webbcona.
It was a crucial return to form for Midlands Golf, which won its opening four games of the season but had not tasted success since then.
Midlands Golf hosts Central Wendouree in a tantalising clash next week.
