A MASSIVE social media campaign is in full swing in a bid to help police find an ABC employee last seen leaving a Brunswick bar early on Saturday.
Jill Meagher, 29, an Irish national who works as a unit co-ordinator at the ABC, was last seen leaving Bar Etiquette, in Sydney Road, about 1.30am after a night out with colleagues. Police believe she intended walking to her nearby home.
As police and her husband yesterday appealed for information on her disappearance, social media took hold. On Twitter, dozens of people posted or retweeted links to news stories, including ABC presenters Wil Anderson, Leigh Sales, Francis Leach, Libbi Gorr, Jenny Brockie and Tamara Oudyn, and the Twitter feeds for the broadcaster's respective programs.
The words ''jill'', ''meagher'', ''brunswick'' and ''vanished'' all separately trended in Australia yesterday.
Broadcasters across Australia, in Ireland, England, New Zealand and the US also lent their feeds to alerting followers.
A Facebook page created to raise awareness last night had more than 3000 followers, while a missing poster was also published on microblogging site Tumblr.
Ms Meagher's husband, Thomas, was concerned for his wife's safety and said the public response on social media had been huge. ''It's been massive. It hasn't led anywhere so far but it's great that it keeps the focus on [the search],'' he said.
Mr Meagher told Channel Nine his wife was his ''best friend'' and that ''this is something she doesn't do''.
He told The Age his wife and colleagues had spent Friday night at the Brunswick Green before visiting Bar Etiquette. He said both bars were a few minutes' away from the couple's home, and that the area was busy and well lit.
Detective acting Sergeant Steve Bull, from Moreland CIU, said police had begun reviewing CCTV footage. He said investigators hoped today to learn whether Ms Meagher's phone or bank card had been used since she was last seen.
He said there were no concerns that Ms Meagher had had too much to drink.
She has a fair complexion, is 165 centimetres tall, is of a slim build, and has long, curly brown hair and brown eyes.
