I THOUGHT the idea presented recently of turning the Civic Hall site into a garden/green space in the city centre was a really good one.
I've got an improvement on that idea. Why not knock down the Civic Hall building, make a beautiful garden area with water features and plenty of spaces to sit, but, on the site, build a smallish building (perhaps two-storeyed to reduce the footprint) which would house the Ballarat Information Centre?
There could be a dedicated area for drive-through car-and-caravan outfits and plenty of other parking spaces in the double-level building there is currently there.
This would allow for a central information centre, with space for touring vehicles, gardens for resting, a building which could house a cafe, toilets, shop as well as all the information material and be a really impressive first stopping place for all visitors.
