The 43-year-old revealed his top 10 song choices for 2015 on Facebook, receiving mixed responses from his 142,000 followers.

Clearly appealing to his constituents, Mr Andrews selected artists from his home state, including Courtney Barnett, Vance Joy, Chet Faker and Meg Mac.

"It's Triple J Hottest 100 voting time and although I'm no expert, I figure you really can't go wrong with a bunch of Victorian artists," he wrote on Facebook.

City Calm Down was nominated for popular track Rabbit Run, much to the delight of the artist behind the band, Samuel Mullaly.

"You've had my vote, about time I got your vote Daniel," Mr Mullaly commented.

Others were sceptical Mr Andrews had chosen the songs himself, suggesting his younger staff members had a role to play.

One wrote: "Dan, I like your work, but let's be honest here - you had to look those artists up or had some assistance with this list."

His taste in music was praised and criticised, while others expressed disappointment he missed well-known artists like the Smith Street Band.

Some took the opportunity to send some not-so-cryptic suggestions. One wrote: "What about "Sign the MFB EB" by the band "Keep your Word." Love that song."

Another said: "I will be voting for Crowded House's Better Be Home Soon in honour of Victoria's public transport system."

The Hottest 100 countdown will be broadcast on Triple J on January 26.
