In a Ballarat Cricket Association firsts match that ebbed and flowed throughout the second day at Wendouree Reserve, the Red Caps eventually drew square with the Mounties’ day one total with just one wicket in hand.

But the home side couldn’t get the job done, with Austen Prendergast bowled by Grant Trevenen without offering a shot as both teams finished level on 238 runs.

Trevenen finished the day with 5-42, while Liam Brady (64), captain Cole Roscholler (41), Heath Pyke (40) and Eamon Johnson (37) all batted well for the Red Caps.

It’s a damaging result for the Wendouree side, which has now slipped nine points adrift of the top four with three rounds to play before finals.

Meanwhile, the tie sees Mt Clear give up top spot to Golden Point.
