The teenager charged with riding the mini motorbike that hit and killed a mother-of-two outside a shopping centre is in talks about pleading guilty to serious charges, his lawyer has told a court.

Caleb Jakobsson, 18, faced a lengthy stint in jail if he pleaded guilty to charges over the death of Andrea Lehane, defence counsel Steve Parker told Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Ms Lehane, 34, suffered major head injuries when thrown about seven metres after she was hit by a so-called "monkey" motorbike while walking over a zebra crossing outside a Carrum Downs hopping centre on September 23 last year.
Her family had her life support turned off two days later.
Mr Jakobsson is charged with culpable driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop, speeding and unlicensed and unregistered driving.
Other teens who were on mini motorbikes with him were also charged.
Mr Jakobsson is also charged with assaulting a woman, an allegation unrelated to the crash.
He appeared before two magistrates on Tuesday - one on the charges related to Ms Lehane's death and the other on the assault charges - and both court rooms were told discussions were continuing with prosecutors over him pleading guilty to the more serious charges.
Mr Parker said the parties were "fairly close" to resolving the matter.
Mr Jakobsson was granted bail by a Supreme Court judge in October after a magistrate had refused his initial application.
The teen is due to return to court on February 5.
