Show some pride and pick up that rubbish

Driving, walking or riding around the Ballarat region, you cannot help but notice the amount of litter and rubbish on the sides of our roads, streets and laneways.

It is absolutely disgusting to see and quite a depressing aspect of our modern lives. The lack of social morality of the callous perpetrators of littering and rubbish dumping is only part of the problem.

As a huge proportion of the rubbish is in front of someone's property one has to wonder at the lack of pride in one's own property that is so prevalent these days.

I have seen rubbish bins put out and rubbish bins taken back in and yet rubbish within metres left on the verge for all the world to see. I know we did not put it there, but a little pride in our own home should give us all some incentive to pick up that bit of litter.

Where is our pride and what are we teaching our children other than it is ok to live with rubbish all around us?

There are many more pollution problems in this world other than an odourless, colourless gas made by nature to nourish plant life. We can't see it and yet we are paying a tax on it. The rubbish pollution is there for all to see and yet?
