Ballarat defends golf title

BALLARAT’S top golfers are defending their title this week at the Country Week golf tournament.

Yesterday was the first round of individual competition at Patterson River Golf Club, with today’s event at Ranfurlie golf course. The team competition will run from today through to Friday.

The Ballarat District Golf Association selected their 12 representatives carefully over the past four months.

BDGA squad team manager Steve Day said the day was extremely successful with four to five players finishing in the top 20. BDGA’s Rory Bourke, from Bacchus Marsh, is leading the tournament after day one, finishing on one under par, score of 71.

“The course was very difficult. There were a lot of good golfers in the field today that didn’t score well,” Day said.

“It’s going to be a hard competition, but if we are able to win, it will be a huge achievement for our team. There are a lot of good golfers playing in the tournament, with a lot of the districts with state players.”

Ballarat District Golf Association team: Rory Bourke (Bacchus Marsh), Riley Brennan (Maryborough), Craig Boucher (Midlands), Michael Harricks (Chalambar), Brett Kerry (Midlands), Sean Klain (Ballarat, Captain), Kelly Lyle (Midlands), Tim Steele (Mt Xavier), Travis Tatt (Buninyong), Brett Tolliday (Buninyong) and Chris Vanderhorst (Midlands).
