Monkey time at Sovereign Hill

RECORD numbers of guests are expected to celebrate Chinese New Year and the year of the monkey at Sovereign Hill this month. A Chinese camp tour, hands-on activities which include writing in Chinese characters and making monkeys, the gold museum wishing tree and a history performance of resistance to Chinese settlement during the gold rush will be featured at Sovereign Hill every Sunday throughout February. There will be other one-off performances throughout the month.  Sovereign Hill education officer Annemarie Kierce expected local and international visitors to flock to the tourist destination over Chinese New Year  “Sovereign Hill places a big emphasis on this (Chinese New Year celebrations) now, not only for local families but also for overseas visitors, (many whom are) from China,” she said.
