The Pointies need just another 31 runs to secure victory against the Ballarat Cricket Association ladder-leaders, which were skittled for just 130 at Western Oval on Saturday.
Golden Point slumped to early trouble in its run chase - at one stage falling to 3-15 - before Saman Jayantha (50 not out) and Andrew Falkner (39 not out) carried the team to a commanding position at stumps.
The Pointies are fourth on the table, seven points ahead of fifth-placed Wendouree.
Hunting outright points on Saturday, the Red Caps declared on 8-255 and have North Ballarat in strife at 3-20 after 14 overs.
