Two West Australians and a South Australians claimed three of the seven heats at the Eastern Oval.
Virginia Stasyszyn and Kiara Reddingius from WA joined Amie Mittiga, of SA, in Sunday’s semi-finals.
Mittiga finished second in Adelaide’s Bay Sheffield Women’s Gift in December.
On that occasion she chased home another West Australian in Kobi Evans, and will not want to play second fiddle to another WA sprinter in Ballarat.
As well as they did, Wonga Park’s Jessica Payne shapes as the one to beat heading into the semi-finals after winner her heat in 13.89 seconds.
It was left to Ross Creek youngster Stephanie Mundy to fly the hometown flag by taking out the second heat.
While she was the only heat winner from Ballarat, the region will be a significant presence in the semi-finals with Cleo Anderson, Tara Domaschenz, Jess Lehmann, Kate Jones, Talia Martin, Bethany Simpson and Jacqui McCann all progress as fastest losers.
World junior championship representative Maddie Coates also advanced in a similar.
Another Australian runner at that level Hana Basic was a scratching in the heats.
