Nathan Lee Rosenow, who has been charged with numerous driving related offences including unlicensed driving and failing to stop motor vehicle on request, made an application for bail at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Police informant Constable Samuel Young told the court Rosenow, who has never held a drivers licence, had been intercepted by police on numerous occasions since April 28 of last year driving unregistered vehicles with incorrect licence plates.

Constable Young said Rosenow also allegedly stole a white Commodore from a Creswick-Newstead Road property between July 24-27 before driving it back to his Ballarat East property.

The court heard a motorcycle was located at the accused’s address believed to be stolen from Kline Street between September 5-18.

It was also alleged Rosenow found a set of keys at an Ararat wreckers which he allegedly used to steal a vehicle valued at $2000.

Constable Young said Rosenow then attempted to swap the stolen car with a man who was selling his car on a Ballarat Anything With Wheels Facebook page.

In addition, the court heard on three occasions Rosenow refused to stop for police and accelerated off at high speeds.

On February 3, Rosenow failed to appear in court and seven warrants were issued for his arrest.

Opposing bail, Constable Young said police believe Rosenow would be an unacceptable risk of failing to answer his bail, was an unacceptable risk to the community and was a potential flight risk if released on bail.

Needing to show cause, Rosenow told the court while he had bought a car, he did not get behind the wheel.

The father of three who represented himself, also said his father was currently ill and needed to be cared for.

Magistrate Mark Stratmann refused Rosenow bail on the terms he failed to show cause why it would be unjust to remand him in custody.

Rosenow was remanded to reappear in the Ballarat Magistrates Court on March 10.
