To mark the anniversary of Adelaide being "Jeffed" when then premier Jeff Kennett extricated the Australian Grand Prix and moved it to Albert Park in 1996, his gift to Melbourne that hordes wanted to return is still here.

It's not only packs of flag-waving revheads resembling mobile memorabilia stands who are being courted by the Australian Grand Prix Corporation for the four-day race from March 17-20.

CEO Andrew Westacott said the focus of the first GP on the calendar was the "fan experience" and value-for-money entertainment for families. To get mums and dads away from the TV and to the track, children under 14 have free admission.

"Celebrate is what we're going to do," Mr Westacott said at a media conference with chairman John Harnden in Albert Park.

There is still no escaping the mutiny against the race led by rusted-on protesters from Save Albert Park because a woman walked passed and yelled: "Ban the GP."

A suitable 21st birthday present is an Allen key because the GP is Australia's most expensive and complicated pop-up costing $61.7 million. That quintessential Melbourne experience of restaurants popping up, especially in laneways, will be created with a new food and entertainment precinct called M-Lane.

To keep up with sophisticated palates of Melburnians and attract foodies, the race is veering hipsterish by having six food trucks, three restaurants, street art installations on shipping containers and music. Not forgetting a coffee bar.

The gripes of fans last year about the toned-down noise of the F1 cars was nearly louder than the engines, so to pacify demanding eardrums, the sound will be 25 per cent louder and team engineers are working on 1000 horsepower engines.

The grunting crescendo is what attracts the GP ambassador, Brittany Davis, to the track. "The noise is amazing," she said. "And the speed."

The 24-year-old glamour girl was aged three when the race began at Albert Park and used to watch it with her father.

Ms Davis is the girlfriend of Geelong Football Club captain Joel Selwood, who along with brother Scott, are GP's AFL ambassadors.

With an army of footballers, WAGS, models and social-media "influencers" taking on ambassadorial roles, Melbourne nearly has more ambassadors than the United Nations.

Ms Davis is an impressive "slashie" as in WAG/teacher/charity worker/shop assistant. After completing her bachelor of education at the Australian Catholic University last year, she is in line to be a relief teacher and work with children with special needs.

Bringing realness to the fame race with no finishing line that is Instagram, she is a shop assistant at fashion store Manning Cartell at Chadstone. "I'm just normal," she said. "I work at a shop. I have a boyfriend. I'm just a normal Aussie girl."

Yet one with 16,400 Instagram followers, a size eight chassis and a stylist, Lana Wilkinson, who dressed her in a blush-coloured suede dress with plunging neckline from Misha Collection and Alexander McQueen heels.

Given music legend Prince is performing in Melbourne on February 16 and 17, it's practice time to party like it's 1999. For the GP's 21st party, it's partying like 1996.

Mrs Wilkinson's GP style forecast is casual suits, blazers, jackets and denim. Think Beverly Hills 90210 and the looks of characters Brenda Walsh and Kelly Taylor. The 1990s was the era of the choker. Think Kim Kardashian with neck embellishments.

No matter the era, ear plugs are always in fashion.
