A vital organ and symbolic centre of emotion, matters of the heart are often complex.
Cardiologist Ernesto Oqueli suggests staying in the theme of love-fuelled declarations this Sunday. Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital cardiology director said give your loved ones some loving advice, straight from the heart, and you will likely find the sentiment reciprocated.
“Encourage your partner and loved ones to look after their hearts...look out for each other to stay healthy and last as long as you can,” associate professor Oqueli said. “That’s what my wife and I do – and we look out for the kids’ heart health as well – create healthy habits out of love for each other.”
Associate professor Oqueli’s top heartfelt heart tips: exercise, stop smoking, decrease alcohol consumption, reduce salt intake, check blood pressure and cholesterol, lower blood sugar and maintain a healthy weight.
Valentine’s Day, he said, prompted a good annual reminder to let someone special know you care.
