BOB and Gwen Thompson have always been a good team. The pair happily celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this month but Bob said Gwen had been his strong off-sider for a lot longer.

They met at the Ronaldson Tippett Christmas Dance in 1951 and went together for three years until Bob popped the question. It was another three years until they married because it took time to save for the occasion.
Bob was an apprentice blacksmith and Gwen used to help him study and make sure he was set for work each day. He supported Gwen however he could in her work – she was a psychiatric sister at Lakeside Mental Hospital.
Their special day is something they truly cherish. Bob and Gwen wed at Christ Church Cathedral in Lydiard Street on February 4, 1956.
“Loving one another no matter what – that’s our secret to a long, happy marriage,” Bob said. “If we have an argument we don’t let it go overnight either."
Bob and Gwen, both turning 80 this year, have three children – Mark, Vicki and Tracey – and have worked hard all their lives. They celebrated their anniversary simply with a family and a few close friends for tea at Sebastopol Bowling Club.
