Former Olympian and Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Insitute ambassador Scott McGrory said in his training diary that eating well in the last week could help up the ride’s climbs.
“Implement your New Year’s resolution to eat healthy foods and cut down on fast foods,” he said.
“Eating well will not only help you ward off cancer, but it will help you shed some extra kilograms which you’ll appreciate as you tackle the climbs in the Cycle Classic.”
One previous tip from Mr McGrory that will still help Sunday week is for riders to familiarise themselves with the courses, especially the more gruelling climbs.
For those not tackling the 100km road ride the cancer research fundraiser has the shorter road and mountain bike courses as well as the Lake Wendouree bike relay and walk.
