Pickles emerges from the pouch to say hello

MEET Pickles, the newest furry face at the Ballarat Wildlife Park who’s come out just in time for spring.

The baby wombat recently emerged after spending her first seven months with mum Coco.

“She’s only just started hopping out of the pouch in the last week,” said the park’s curator of mammals Julia Leonard. “By nine months, she’ll be completely emerged.”

Ms Leonard said Pickles would become completely independent at 18 months and would probably become a familiar face at the park alongside some of her family members.

“She has two siblings here, and two at other zoos,” she said.
