BALLARAT residents who grow cannabis illegally are being asked to participate in a global survey helped being run by an Australian University.
Victorian researchers are surveying people who grow cannabis small-scale as part of an anonymous study at the National Drug Research Institute at Curtin University.
Researchers are exploring how and why people grow cannabis, including for recreation, medical reasons or profit.
The study also aims to identify growers' perceptions about the risk of getting caught.
Participants must be 18 years old and have grown cannabis at least once.
The online survey takes about 15 minutes and is completely anonymous.
Australia coordinator Monica Barratt said even though it is prohibited in most countries, cannabis was still the most widely used illicit drug in the world.
"Over the past few decades, domestic cannabis cultivation has increased in several countries," she said.
"This survey will look at what's happening in Australia as well as differences across borders."
