A 15-year-old boy's mate has been identified by police as the promoter of an unregistered suburban party which went big on social media before being shut down.

At last check, 1662 people clicked that they were "going" on Facebook to the party, billed as "S&R ROUND 2", at a house in the outer eastern suburb of Bayswater on Saturday night.

But then Victoria Police hit the lights and turned off the music, informing the organisers with a post on the Facebook event that their party was over before it began:

"Hi Riley, This is Victoria Police," the post began, cordially.

"We know that you're planning to host a party and no doubt have the relevant permits to do so. We'll be there to ensure we don't spoil the party, and suggest you might want to let the party goers know this event is cancelled."

Ouch. Hopefully they didn't buy too much kabana and Bega cheese squares.

But then things took another turn, as police said on Friday that the person who was promoting the party online was not the actual host, a 15-year-old boy who was now probably in a lot of trouble with his parents.

"From what we understand, it was his mate who took it to the next level and posted the infamous comments on social media," a spokesperson said.

The host's dad also released a statement through police saying that the party was organised "without my prior knowledge or approval".

And just in case some of the revellers didn't get the message and decide to turn up on the night, he said there would be private security to keep people away.

"Again can I make it clear that no member of the public will be allowed access to my property on Saturday night," he said.

"And it is my decision that the event be cancelled."

Meanwhile, on the Facebook event, a few party animals were still committed to honouring their RSVP. Despite being asked to stay clear by police, one invitee told a media outlet "yous are welcomed to the party as well".

As party rights activists the Beastie Boys also foretold, "listen all of y'all it's a sabotage".
