PERFORMANCE art and photography have joined forces for a new exhibition showcasing Ballarat’s strong creative history.
Take a Bow will also highlight the important relationship between performance and photography.
Take a Bow began with a photography competition launched in August, with 36 finalists now preparing to exhibit their work.
The nine-day exhibition will be be held at the Ballarat Mechanics’ Institute from Saturday, October 20, until Sunday, October 28.
It has been organised by the Ballarat International Foto Biennale (BIFB) in partnership with the Royal South Street Society and Ballarat Regional Tourism (BRT).
People were invited to submit up to three images each of performance in any discipline, such as theatre, circus or dance.
BRT chairman Stuart Benjamin said the event was a perfect fit for Ballarat, bringing together two of the city’s cultural strengths.
“Take a Bow will continue to grow the region’s reputation as an arts and cultural hub, celebrating one of our oldest traditions, performance art, and one of our newest, photography exhibitions,” Mr Benjamin said.
“BRT is committed to an events strategy that builds on our strengths, one of which is arts and culture. This event also offers something for both locals and arts around the region, while offering an exhibition which will attract art lovers from across the state.”
Mr Benjamin said there will also be an exhibition of Jeff Busby’s recent work, Ponch Hawkes’ circus photography and Ben Searcy’s award-winning rock and roll images.
Each Saturday and Sunday, there will be demonstrations on how to photograph performance.
“Like BIFB, we are confident Take a Bow will go from strength to strength,” Mr Benjamin said.
