RAIN ruined the opening day of the Ballarat Cricket Association season.
Day one of the two-day fixtures were abandoned in club firsts, thirds and fourths about 10am on Saturday.
Clubs were notified and messages were sent out across the BCA’s website and on social media to alert players of the decision.
The wash-out means play this coming Saturday will revert to one day conditions for all affected competitions.
Reigning first eleven premiers Wendouree will meet Darley in a semi-final rematch at Learmonth, last year’s grand finalists Napoleons-Sebastopol travel to take on Brown Hill, Mount Clear hosts Ballarat-Redan, Golden Point and North Ballarat clash at Sparrow Ground and Coronet City locks horns with East Ballarat at Russell Square.
Play in the club seconds, scheduled for yesterday, went ahead as planned with games taking place throughout Ballarat.
The district divisions one, two and three, as well as the junior grades, kick-off this weekend.
Wet weather also had the final say in the opening weekend of Mount Prospect and Buninyong and District tennis associations.
Play was cancelled in both competitions.
Round one of the Ballarat District Bowls Division was impacted by the rain, with a number of divisions being classified as wash-outs.
However, premier, one, three, five, six and eight divisions were all completed.
