Mr Ashby, who was hit in an alleged hit-run on Good Friday remains in hospital surrounded by his family and friends, but the cycling community is doing all it can to show their support for the much-loved triathlete.
Ballarat Triatholon Club treasurer Darren Pryor said cyclists had wanted to find an easy way to make a direct contribution to the Ashby family.
To achieve this, Mr Pryor and other members set up a bank account. The funds will be distributed to the family as needed and will continue indefinitely.
Mr Pryor said it was likely that all funds collected from recent fundraisers would be pooled together and placed in the account.
Mr Ashby is not a member of the club, but is known to regularly ride in triathlons with some members. Ballarat Community Health is also believed to be involved.
“Absolutely, the cycling community has been deeply affected by this,” Mr Pryor said.
“There’s been a few different fundraisers set up, but the cyclists wanted somewhere where they could continue to donate.
“I haven’t spoken to the family directly, but I understand they are grateful for any support.”
Mr Ashby, a father of two young children, is a much loved podiatrist and friend to many bike riders.
Mr Pryor said more fundraisers for the family were being organised and would hopefully take place in June.
If you would like to the donate funds you can do so at any Bendigo Bank or by transferring money to Ballarat Triathlon Club 'Christian Ashby Fundraising Account BSB 633 000, Account 157204173.
