BOWLS: Victoria, Daylesford among the winners in midweek pennant division one.

VICTORIA has stamped itself as a serious top four contender while Daylesford has enjoyed an equally comprehensive victory against Smeaton in Ballarat District Bowls Division midweek pennant division one.

The Vics, promoted into the top grade this season, dominated Webbcona on Webbcona's grass on Monday, defeating the home team 78-52 and winning all three rinks.

Glenis Ward's team had the better of Ann Gull's 27-15, while Julie Nimmo's four beat Jenny Shepherd's 18.In the one close game, Brenda Hughes' team won 20-19 against Jackie Hammond's.

The victory sees Victoria in the top four in division one with 20 points, trailing Avenue (28), Central Wendouree A (27) and Daylesford (26). 

  "We're pleasantly surprised. It's been a good start and it has been less of a step up into division one than we might have thought," Victoria skipper Julie Nimmo said.

Daylesford had a 28 shot triumph at home against Smeaton, 84-56. Avenue continued on its winning way with a 71-67 away win against Midlands.

Central Wendouree A enjoyed a close 64-62 victory over Creswick at Ballarat, while the other newly promoted club Mt Xavier had a 41 shot victory over Central Wendouree B at home, 86-45.
