NORTH Ballarat Rebels and St Patrick's College footballer Dom Barry was offered a place at Melbourne Football Club this morning.
The 18-year-old had not previously conversed with Melbourne FC and was zoned to GWS, but in a trading deal was offered the spot along with West Australian Jesse Hogan.
The midfielder/forward tested well at the national AFL Draft Combine last week, but was not expecting an AFL offer.
"I went down bright and early to Melbourne and I was pretty confused, I didn't know what was going on. And they didn't give anything away," Barry said.
"At the end they just said - congratulations, we'd like to have you on board. We'd like to have you from pre-season."
